The festival of colors has started and one can’t stop themselves from putting color on loved ones. The festival which showers color on everyone is harmful and artificial. Most people use color which are harmful and toxix. These artificial color are easily available in the market and are quite cheap too. We all know that these artificial colors contain chemicals which are harmful for our body. To avoid health problems, allergies and dry skin, we can easily organic colors at home. All the ingredients are there in the kitchen and one can easily make colors without much effort. These organic color will prevent all the harmful effects, we have some
tips for you on how to make organic colors at home:
1. Herbal Water Color
For all those who would love to play a wet Holi, buy Tesu flowers and soak about 100gm in a bucket of water overnight to get the beautiful saffron color. You can have the children fill balloons or their water cannons with this safe natural colored water.
2. Green Sheen
Green is the color of growth and balance. You can use henna powder soaked overnight for wet color. Vegetables like spinach and coriander can also be ground and used for wet color. For dry color use henna powder mixed with wheat flour. This will give it a light green hue. Dried and crushed leaves of Gulmohur tree can also be used for green color.
3. Orange or saffron
The color orange is the color of creativity and optimism. Dry Tesu flowers, grind them and mix them with flour. To make saffron colored water just add a few strands of saffron to water and keep it overnight.
4. Ever heard of Herbal Gulal?
Holi is also the time for family bonding, and this is the perfect activity for all family members. Here is an easy recipe to make gulal by renowned beauty expert Suparna Trikha. Take 200gm arrowroot powder, 100gm haldi, 50gm marigold flowers, 20gm orange peel powder (finely powdered) and 20 drops essential oil of lemon or sandalwood. Put all the ingredients into a large plastic mixing bowl or tub and hand mix, rubbing together gently. You will see a beautiful yellow colored, safe and natural gulal being made.
5. Ravishing Red
Red is the color of purity. Red sandalwood powder or vermilion can be used for this shade. Unlike synthetic colors, red sandalwood is beneficial for the skin and is used in face packs. Dried rose petals, dried red hibiscus flowers mixed with flour are perfect for dry color. Grated beetroot can also be used as a wet color.
6. Shades of Pink
For magenta or shades of pink, beetroot is an excellent agent. Boil a few pieces of beetroot in a cup of water to create dark magenta colored water. Or you can also keep pieces in the water and let it rest for a few hours for the color to develop. For dry powder, grind beetroot to make a paste and let it dry in the sun. Mix with besan or wheat flour and use. Hibiscus flower is another good option.
7. Dry Powders with Food Colors
“Dry colors on your mind? Take rice flour, add proportionate food color and mix it with two teaspoons of water to make a thick paste. Leave it to dry and then blend it in a grinder to use it as a powdered color.
